Erasmus+ CBHE Project:

Strengthening International Staff & Student Mobility Offices

in the West Balkans: ROAMING

The project, titled “ROAMING – Strengthening International Staff & Student Mobility Offices in the West Balkans,” aims to reduce the unbalanced international mobility uptake of remote and less privileged HEIs in the West Balkans by strengthening the capacity of their International Relations Offices. ROAMING project responds to the European Commission’s commitment to reinforce the ERASMUS+ programme “in particular by reaching out to increasing numbers of people with fewer opportunities,” as those served by the type of HEIs mentioned above.

The primary objective of the project is to enhance the internationalization of HEIs in the third countries not associated with the Erasmus+ programme through “Strengthening International Staff & Student Mobility Offices in the West Balkans.” In strengthening international credit mobility in partner HEIs, particular attention will be paid to inclusive education, equality and equity, utilizing the products and experience of another CBHE project. This project also serves the regional WB objective of promoting and supporting regional mobility initiatives, particularly recognition and transfer systems for credits.

ROAMING project bears significant EU added value. Cross-border student and staff mobility being at the core of European values, strengthening the capacity of International Relations Offices of remote and socially segregated HEIs is especially important in the prospect of association of West Balkans countries to the ERASMUS+ programme and their EU integration, as the more complicated requirements of the ERASMUS+ programme for partner or associated countries, if not addressed in a timely fashion, could further intensify the unbalanced international mobility uptake of students from remote or less privileged HEIs. It is for this reason that the experience and expertise of a European HEI from Greece and North Macedonia are expected to be instrumental and dictated these choices.
