As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Public International Business College Mitrovica (IBCM), through its Psychology Program and the WeMind Project, organized a student-focused awareness event dedicated to promoting mental well-being, resilience, and support within the academic community.
The event was led by Prof. Asst. Florim Gallopeni and Prof. Asst. Bujar Gallopeni, who engaged students in discussions on the importance of mental health and the role it plays in academic success, personal development, and overall quality of life.
Participants explored the concept of mental health as more than simply the absence of illness, but rather a state of well-being that enables individuals to manage everyday challenges, realize their potential, build meaningful relationships, and contribute positively to society. Through interactive discussions, students reflected on the various dimensions of wellbeing, including emotional, psychological, social, intellectual, and physical health.
Particular attention was given to the challenges commonly experienced by university students, such as academic pressures, deadlines, adapting to new environments, financial concerns, and balancing personal and professional responsibilities. The session also addressed mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, emphasizing the importance of early recognition, open conversations, and seeking support when needed.
A key focus of the event was the presentation of initiatives that support student well-being at IBCM. Students learned more about the WeMind Project, which aims to strengthen mental health awareness and innovative support mechanisms for young people, as well as the college’s PsyTech Lab, where technology and psychology intersect to create new opportunities for learning, research, and well-being promotion.
As part of the program, participants experienced an interactive Virtual Reality (VR) wellbeing session, demonstrating how emerging technologies can be used to support relaxation, stress management, and mental health awareness in educational settings.
Through initiatives such as the WeMind Project and activities organized by the Psychology Program, IBCM continues to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where student well-being, mental health awareness, and community engagement remain key institutional priorities.
