Students from the Environmental and Agriculture Management (Semester 3) program at the Public International Business College Mitrovica (IBCM) took part in a field study at Hirano Mushroom LLC, under the guidance of Prof. Asst. Afete Musliu.
The visit offered students a valuable opportunity to experience how innovation, sustainability, and international expertise come together in one of Kosovo’s most advanced agricultural enterprises.
Hirano Mushroom, founded in 2013, is recognized as the largest shiitake mushroom producer in Europe, combining Japanese technology with local and international know-how to cultivate premium mushrooms for export across Europe and beyond.
During the visit, students explored the company’s modern production facilities in Suhodoll, Mitrovica, where they learned about:
Controlled-environment cultivation systems for shiitake mushrooms,
Sustainable production methods and resource efficiency,
Quality control and export preparation for international markets.
This hands-on learning experience strengthened students’ understanding of practical agricultural processes and highlighted how sustainable practices can drive innovation and economic growth in the region.
IBCM continues to promote experiential learning through partnerships with local and international companies, preparing students to become the next generation of environmentally conscious professionals.
