The Public International Business College Mitrovica had the pleasure of hosting representatives from HANDIKOS for an insightful and inspiring guest lecture focused on inclusion, accessibility, and the importance of equal opportunities for people with disabilities. HANDIKOS has long worked toward improving the rights, participation, and living standards of people with disabilities in Kosovo through advocacy, support services, and awareness initiatives.
During the session, students and participants explored the challenges that people with disabilities may face in society and within educational institutions. Discussions highlighted the importance of creating environments that provide equal access, support, and opportunities for everyone. The lecture emphasized that higher education institutions should continuously work toward ensuring inclusion and accessibility for all students.
Participants also engaged in an interactive exercise designed to help them better understand the experiences of people living with different disabilities by placing themselves in situations that reflected everyday challenges and barriers. The discussion addressed social barriers such as stereotypes, discrimination, and prejudice, while also emphasizing the importance of using respectful and appropriate terminology when referring to people with disabilities.
One of the most impactful moments of the lecture was the personal story shared by the guest speaker, who reflected on the difficulties and obstacles experienced throughout life as a person with a disability. Through determination and perseverance, the speaker demonstrated how challenges can be overcome and delivered an inspiring message on the importance of empathy, respect, and ensuring that no individual feels excluded.
IBCM extends its sincere appreciation to HANDIKOS for sharing valuable experiences and contributing to meaningful discussions that promote awareness, inclusion, and a more supportive society for everyone.
