Internships are an inseparable part of the studies here at IBCM. The knowledge gained, opportunities earned, networks created and all the fun – wrap it all up as an unforgettable experience.

The same goes for our Agricultural and Environmental Management student, Gylistan Deda. Gylistan spent her compulsory internship within her 7th semester with Kurt Weiss Greenhouses Inc, a company based in New York, USA.

We were curious to know everything about her experience as an intern and as a student living in the USA, so we prepared a short interview, answers of which you can read below.

How did you get this internship?

Gylistan: ”On the 7th semester we had to complete a mandatory internship and I always wanted to have an experience abroad so I found a great opportunity through Global Work and Training Agency.”

What has been the most enjoyable aspect of your internship at the USA?

Gylistan: Working in an English-language environment in a big company such as Kurt Weiss Greenhouses Company, is an important aspect of our internship program. However, the language itself is not enough. Learning widespread American standards and American cultural skills will make us stand out and truly ready to engage in the global sphere. I think my English is better now. Sometimes I had to find a way to explain an idea, so I learn to find a way to do it”.

How have your studies at IBCM helped you during your internship?

Gylistan: “The central goal is to get students out of the classroom and into the real world therefore they can feel and see the entire work process, so studying in IBCM helped us to be prepared for the real business world”.

What advice would you give to other students doing internships?

Gylistan: “I think that an internship is extremely valuable to a student. It is a small taste of the real world. It helped reinforce my knowledge of responsibility, focus, drive and ambition. Another aspect that I learned throughout my internship is to never be afraid to ask lots of questions. By asking questions I got answers”.

“BE BRAVE. TAKE RISKS. NOTHING CAN SUBSTITUTE EXPERIENCE.”

What are your plans after graduating from IBCM?

Gylistan: ”Well, the first plan is to look for a good job and then I want to start my master degree in Kosovo or maybe in USA. It depends from the kind of job that I will find in my country”.

We at IBCM would like to thank Gylistan for her availability and willingness to respond and wish her all the best in her future plans.
