Public International Business College Mitrovica (IBCM), represented by Rector Prof. Dr. Mihone Kerolli Mustafa and Lecturer Damir Gashi, participated in a two-day training session in Málaga, Spain, as part of the EU Horizon EMERITUS project on environmental crime. IBCM was joined by representatives from the Kosovo Police, including Major Arsim Krasniqi, Director of the Directorate for Investigation of Organized and Serious Crimes; Lieutenant Reshat Haxhaj, Chief of the Environmental Crime Unit; and two investigators from the same unit.
The conference/training was held on 26 and 27 March 2025, bringing together police officers and border guard experts from all over Europe. The event discussed new technologies and methods for combating environmental crimes, including waste trafficking and water pollution.
The training courses involved practical sessions on the EMERITUS platform and tools, such as drones, as well as lectures regarding EU legal frameworks and cross-border collaboration. The police officers had the opportunity to work in teams to solve case scenarios related to waste management and cross-border environmental crimes and to observe practical examples of the technical aspects of water quality early warning systems in real time. The EMERITUS project demonstrates IBCM’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges through education, research, and international cooperation.
IBCM extends its sincere gratitude to the CIFAL Málaga team for organizing the event and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Special thanks go to Mrs. Déborah Salafranca, CIFAL Málaga Director and Economic Policy Lecturer at the University of Málaga; Mrs. Alfia Urazaeva, CIFAL Málaga Business Developer/Project Manager; and the entire team for their outstanding coordination of project activities, as well as their exceptional hospitality and professionalism.
