A Certificate Award Ceremony was held at the Riverside Campus of the Public International Business College Mitrovica (IBCM), recognizing the successful completion of language courses by Kosovo Police officers as part of the EULEX-supported project “Support to Kosovo Police to Improve Communication with the Local Population in Northern Kosovo” implemented by IBCM.

The courses, conducted between July and November 2024, provided essential training in Albanian, Serbian, and English languages. They were designed to enhance the officers’ communication skills, fostering effective engagement with all communities in northern Kosovo and promoting greater collaboration among police officers of different ethnic backgrounds.

The ceremony featured welcoming remarks from:

  • Prof. Dr. Mihone Kerolli Mustafa, Rector of IBCM
  • Ms. Emily Rakhorst, Deputy Head of Mission, EULEX
  • Lieutenant Petrit Fejza, Head of the Regional Sector for Operations, Mitrovica North Regional Police Directorate

Following the speeches, certificates were awarded to the participants in recognition of their achievements.

Prof. Dr. Mihone Kerolli Mustafa, Rector of IBCM, emphasized the college’s ongoing commitment to supporting capacity-building projects:

“This collaboration with EULEX exemplifies how education can empower institutions like the Kosovo Police to create a more inclusive and cooperative environment for all citizens.”

Ms. Emily Rakhorst, Deputy Head of Mission for EULEX, highlighted the importance of such projects in fostering trust and improving relationships between the police and local populations:

“Language is a bridge that connects us, and today, we celebrate a significant step in building those bridges within Kosovo’s diverse communities.”

The project underscores the critical role of multilingualism in strengthening community policing efforts and bridging gaps in communication in northern Kosovo.
